What do you do when your car battery quits on you?
It’s an occurrence that a lot of you can relate to, especially now that you are on this page. You get in your car, all dressed up to impress and ready to head off for your date and just as you turn the key, the old girl won’t crank. You turn it a few more times, even pumping the gas pedal out of desperation before eventually coming to the frustrating realization that you’re not going anywhere anytime soon.
Yes, we’ve all had car batteries quit on us. Sometimes, it’s due to our own follies such as absent-mindedly leaving the headlights on before leaving the car or taking in a bit too much cool air from the car’s air-conditioner on a hot day without having the car running. Sometimes, it’s due to equally careless mistakes like not starting the car for a really long time, not making sure to keep the terminals clean and just an overall lack of maintenance. And for those living in frigid conditions, having the batteries just plain freeze on you.
Here are some tips and tricks to avert car battery problems that you can use.
Make sure you always have handy some contact numbers that could be of help in such situations. This, of course, includes a car repair service that offer to tow your vehicle. When it comes to towing, make sure you are aware of whether your vehicle is a front-wheel drive (FWD), rear-wheel drive (RWD) or all-wheel drive(AWD) automobile because the towing procedure varies for each. FWD requires front hook-up, RWD requires rear hook-up while AWD requires a flat-bed. This is so the drive wheels don’t drag the ground when being towed.
Also make sure you keep handy the numbers of friends or family that live near your route, so if there is no towing service to help you out, perhaps they could come to your assistance.
In the next article, we shall deal with procedures that you can carry out when you are stuck with a dead car battery.
